After Persona II -2025

Analog Photography

After Persona is ultimately a meditation on identity as something performed, inherited, and gradually unlearned. Through ritualized symbols and mythic staging, the project questions how much of the self is lived, and how much is rehearsed. It explores the quiet violence of conformity, the tenderness within belief, and the fragile courage required to turn inward. By moving through masks, silence, faith, sacrifice, and resistance, After Persona seeks not to offer resolution, but to hold space for contradiction where the self is neither singular nor stable, but continually negotiated. What emerges is not a purified identity, but an awakened awareness of becoming.

In After Persona, existence does not begin with choice, but with inheritance. We are born into narratives written by others, shaped into vessels that continue desires, beliefs, and myths not our own. Life becomes a rehearsed ritual, a performance learned long before consent. The mask marks the beginning of this rehearsal. It is the face granted by society, a mold left behind by generations and mythologies. We learn to face the world through masks, and eventually, to recognize ourselves through them. The ear signifies the boundary between listening and refusal. As external voices continually shape who we are expected to become, silence emerges as a form of resistance. This silence is not withdrawal, but a deliberate act of listening inward, toward a truer self.

The candle embodies faith and devotion. Its light is gentle and fragile, yet capable of piercing darkness. Each flame stands as a witness to humanity’s longing for meaning, while simultaneously burning and purifying the disguises we carry. The lamb represents love and belief. It is innocence offered, tenderness sacrificed, and a softness that persists even under the weight of being watched, shaped, and tamed. The sword forms the final movement of the ritual. It is both defense and awakening. When the world directs its blades toward us, we learn not only to endure them, but to grasp and turn them inward, using clarity as a means to cut through illusion.

Within this mythic domestic theatre, the sacred intertwines with the artificial, and innocence coexists with quiet violence. We move endlessly between faith and doubt, obedience and resistance, until the moment arrives. The mask falls. The candle fades. The lamb falls silent. The sword points inward. Only then does the true self begin to emerge.
